Review on Rimmel's Wake me up foundation

Sunday 24 November 2013

I thought i'd give you guys a quick review, I know that the Rimmel wake me up foundation isn't exactly new, however, coming from a girl who has always tried to steer of foundation, and usually sticks to tinted moisturises, I have found the colder months are not being kind to my skin and unfortunately my beloved clarins tinted moisturiser just wont make the cut anymore. Therefore I hope some of you might find this useful if your looking to change your foundation, now that we are in the colder months!

So, I had heard great things about this foundation and I wanted something that was natural looking as I'm not a great fan of looking like an orange (if you know what I mean). I picked this up from my nearest Boots for £8.99 which I think is fairly reasonable, In my opinion foundation is the one thing you should invest in, as cheap ones can often wreck your skin, so as this is a drug store product I did have my quires to begin with....

The foundation comes in six shades, as I am quite fair, I went for the lightest shade which is ivory, I have to say it is a perfect match for me. The coverage is good, it is quite light and I used about 2 pumps on my whole face. As for the shimmer I found it just leaves your face with a nice glow rather than being sparkly! I usually have quite oily skin but in the winter I tend to get some dry patches and thankfully this foundation doesn't cling! Overall I'd say this was a very good alternative to your high end foundations, is it better than Mac, or Bobbi brown? hmmm... probably not, however I think it could certainly give them a run for their money!

anyone else tried it?

There's something about the red sole

Saturday 16 November 2013

I know I may be a little early but I couldn't help getting into the festive mood when I dug out this little black, knitted sparkly number, and of course to get even more into the festive spirit I 'borrowed' my mum's Louboutin's to pair with the dress, there really is something so irresistible about the red sole, not only that but it certainly adds to the festive party theme I was going for.

I kept the make up relatively fresh and simple, so not to detract from the shoes and sparkly dress, also a lot of people tend to go quite OTT with their makeup during the festive season, so I thought it would be quite refreshing to go for beautiful clear skin (not cakey) and simple eyes.

Dress- Jesire, Shoes and purse- Christian Louboutin, Bracelet- purchased from a boutique abroad however you can find many similar in most costume jewellers.

From school girls to sixth formers

Monday 11 November 2013

Last Friday was the day my friends and I had been quietly looking forward too, it was what my school calls 'sixth form experience' so we were able to put on our fancy sixth form gear, I must admit I felt  slightly like a business woman with my pencil skirt, and blazer! Then go on to try some A level taster lessons, this meant going to lessons we actually enjoy! After all that, we got to go to our rather fancy 'candle light supper' as my headmistress called it. Yay! We got to put on our beautiful dresses we had been waiting to wear (well I had been waiting anyway). The day was actually quite useful in helping me decide on what options to take, and also gave me a wake up call to the fact i'll hopefully be going to university in a couple of years....that's a scary thought. With university in mind it's meant I've woken up to the fact I really need to start 'buckling down'. I'm the kind of person who puts in about 90% of the effort I should do. So now Liv, it's time to put in 100% it might feel tough now, but it will be worth it! (Hopefully).
Sorry, giving myself a little pep talk there!
Here are some photos from the evening meal.

The dress I'm wearing is from American apparel

What are you guys hoping to do in the future?

Party like a smurf

Sunday 3 November 2013

So Halloween was last thursday, so I thought 'hey! why not have a party!?' And so that is exactly what I did. Admittedly clearing up the next day wasn't great... But you can only get away with looking like a smurf once a year! (as you can see above we went slightly mad with the face paint) So it was worth it. Here are some pictures from the night!
Enjoy!

What did you guys get up too this Halloween?

Top 5 makeup essentials for October

Friday 25 October 2013

As I was sitting powdering my face this morning, thinking about my next blog post, I realised that all the items I was slapping on my face at the time, I actually use everyday and in fact I don't know what i'd do without them! So I came up with my top 5 makeup products I could not live without, enjoy!

1. Clarins Hydra quench tinted moisturiser

As I have quite breakout prone skin, I don't really like to use a foundation because it lives my skin in hives! (not literally, but I get more spots). So instead I like to use either a tinted moisturiser or bb cream and I have to say so far this Clarins tinted moisturiser is my favourite. I am a big fan of the dewy, glowing look and for me this product does just that. But it doesn't leave you looking like a sweaty grease ball either!
I use the shade 03 peach, not too light but not too dark either!

2. Boing concealer by benefit

FAVOURITE CONCEALER EVER!
This must be about my 6th purchase of this concealer it's brilliant to cover up any blemishes or to go under your eyes (cover up those bags!) It's my best friend in the morning as I have to get up very early (6:20!) to catch the train to school and this concealer manages to make me look a tad bit more alive on those early mornings.
I use the first shade, 01.

3. Mac mineralise skin finish natural

Every girl needs a good powder, unless you want your concealer to run half way down your face! This powder leaves your skin looking natural and not like a cake, however a little goes a long way so if you put too much on you can easily go from looking natural too slightly over done.
I use the shade light plus.

4. Bobbi Brown bronzing powder

I must admit I haven't tried many bronzers, because when I found this one I just stuck with it! It really is that good, I love it because it makes you look like you've just come back from a very refreshing holiday with a glowing tan. I'm a big fan of Bobbi Brown as I think her makeup is very natural and true to who you are and so this is one of my favourite products I have from that brand.
I use the shade Golden Light.

5. Lancome L'absolu Rouge 173

And finally at number 5 I thought I'd spice things up with my favourite lipstick for this season. The picture is quite deceiving because in my opinion the colour is a slightly more of a browny red, great for this season, when the leaves on the trees go all brown and crispy :).

So that is all of my essentials for october! what are yours?

"Meow" autumnal look with a dash of halloween

Wednesday 23 October 2013

So I went a bit mad in Top shop the other week, in fact I went so mad that virtually the whole of this outfit (minus the accessories) I purchased from there. But I mean how can any girl resist falling in love with the clothes in there!? Its like walking into a teenage girls idea of heaven.
So whilst in my little pace of heaven, I found my go to look for this autumn, paring some black tights with some bang on trend boots with a beautiful velvet kimono. As for the cat ears, I guess I must of been feeling a tad mischievous when I brought them, but why not its nearly halloween! (laughs scarily).

- I think this is the head of aphrodite? Anyone know for sure?

This velvet kimono would have to be my favourite out of all the purchases I made on that day in Top shop, although it was a little pricey at £45, it was so worth it. The detailing on the back is stunning and on the sleeves are little tassels which like most kimono's have, that makes them so unique.

Shoes, shoes, SHOES! Ah the shoes, previous to buying these I admittedly had my eye on another pair of boots from Top shop which were £75, I had been deciding weather to buy them or not for a couple of weeks, I eventually decided to go back to the store to buy them, so was gutted to find when I arrived they had gone out of stock! Fortunately it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because as I looked around for an alternative, I found  these which were a lot cheaper at £38. I was quite happy with myself I must say. However I must thank my friends who actually spotted them for me, thanks Sky and Hattie!

This ring I purchased whilst on holiday in Cyprus. But if your not willing to fly over there to buy this ring ( I don't blame you) I found some similar dangle rings online which you can purchase from free people.com

'Where can I purchase these lovely items?' I hear you ask?

  • Dress- Top shop, Kimono- Top shop, Shoes- Top Shop, Cat ears- River Island , Necklace-French Connection, Nail varnish- Ted Baker from the butterfly beauty collection, Ring- similar dangle rings to purchase at freepeople.com.
Are you as obsessed with Top Shop as I am?

"It does not matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop"

Wednesday 23 October 2013

“It does not matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop”

Yes, admittedly I stumbled upon this quote and stole it from tumblr who stole it from Confucius, however the quote got me thinking whilst I was sitting in another dull as dishwater math lesson (no offense to all the mathematicians out there, but its not for me.) Trying my best to rack my brain around the mind-boggling objective of ‘algebraic fractions’ I looked over to my friend who was already speeding mercilessly through to question 10 when I was still writing the date. Yes that friend, we all have one, the friend that speeds through things so fast you don’t even have time to think, the friend that makes you feel slightly stupid for taking things slow instead of racing to finish in a nanosecond. Admit it, it’s annoying.

Despite this as I slowly ploughed through the questions, I realized, well, I may be going slow but at least I’m doing it right (hopefully), I must admit I felt slightly smug when the speedy friend actually got some questions wrong, and the teacher called out: “slow and steady wins the race”.
Remember that old saying? The saying my mum drilled into me when I was younger. It’s actually stuck with me even now. Whether you’re looking to become the next Julia Roberts, Coco Channel, Einstein or Alan Sugar! It takes time to work your way up, and no one (unless your extremely lucky or royal) has success handed to him or her on a plate. The point is Even small steps in the right direction can add up and make a big difference in the long run. As long as you keep working toward your dreams and goals, even if it’s just a few minutes each day, you can achieve them.

I think what Dory said in Finding Nemo is useful: ‘just keep swimming’, meaning there may be some days, and lets face, it we all have these days where you feel like giving up, don’t. Believe me, or all of the most successful people in the world, as they will say the hard work pays off in the end and the satisfaction of achieving your goal will be so worth the effort. In the words of Winston Churchill: “Never, never, never give up”.

So, whether it’s solving a math’s equation or flying to the moon, don’t lose faith.
If you find a mountain in your way, go over it or around it. If you find a ravine in your way, build a bridge. You might not make much forward progress during the time you are surmounting your obstacle, but you are still moving towards the goal. The only way to fail is too give up.

“Just keep swimming”.
